June was a slow month in terms of volume, but we continue to see emerging beauty brands shoring up their leadership teams as well as some big announcements from beauty conglomerates. John Melo is out at Amyris, and the company cut 300 jobs as PricewaterhouseCoopers guides the biotech business transformation and looks for $250 million in savings. Ouai CEO Colin Walsh will be filling the position as head of Procter & Gamble's Specialty Beauty division.John Melo resigned from his longtime role as President and CEO of Amyris and stepping down from the board of directors. The board has appointed Han Kieftenbeld as interim CEO. Kieftenbeld will also remain the company’s CFO.Colin Walsh has been appointed head of Procter & Gamble's Specialty Beauty division, taking the reins from Chris Heiert, a P&G 25-year veteran who is retiring next month. Created in 2022, the division encompasses labels such as Farmacy, Tula Skincare, Ouai, First Aid Beauty, and Mielle Organics. Walsh has been CEO of Ouai for almost five years, overseeing the P&G acquisition in 2021. Prior to that, he was the CEO of DevaCurl.Anke Menkhorst was appointed SVP Group Marketing at German beauty retailer Douglas, reporting directly Group CCO Philipp Andrée. She has worked in the beauty industry for the Japanese cosmetics group Kao for the last 16 years, most recently as General Manager and Managing Director for various European national subsidiaries of Kao. For the last six years, she has served as CEO of ESL Language Education.L’Oréal announced the appointment of Liliahn Majeed as Chief Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Officer, North America.
